Apparently I’m not original. Not all the time anyway.
I just read an article I really enjoyed. It’s called Six Authors Who Were Copywriters First.
Nobody wants to be a starving artist, or writer for that matter.
We want to be good writers, no, great writers, but we don’t want to live in poverty to do it. We want to be able to support our families and provide for their every need.
The road to be becoming published is a long one. And if you are fortunate enough to be published it doesn’t mean you’ll necessarily be able to sustain yourself let alone your family.
I love writing. At this point in my life I even know I’m good at it and that I’ll do it for the rest of my days. I also know that I’m able to sustain my family doing it. I just won’t do it through publishing books. Not yet. So there’s the next best thing. It’s called copywriting.
Copywriting is a wonderful field. It’s the world of targeted writing, where your aim is to do something very specific, sell.
I find copywriting both fun and challenging. I love the creative aspect of it. I love the very focused aspect of driving sales for clients. It gives me a real buzz.
One day however, I do hope to join the ranks of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Salman Rushdie and become a published novelist. A little fame won’t hurt either.
